FERN Tree Watch
What will you get to learn?
15 to 20 tree species will be selected by our experts and introduced to you with following points:
Common name, Botanical name, family, Distinct morphological characters, its origin & habitat, flowering/ fruiting season, ecological significance, medicinal or economic importance if any, information on regeneration.
What to bring?
Field diary or notebook, pen, binocular, camera, hand lens, field guide, cap, drinking water, snacks.
This program is open to all age groups and there are no fees for participating.
Prior registration is not required for this program.
When? 1st Sunday of every month
Where? A pre-selected locality of Thane, venue is declared on 15th of previous month
Timing? 8 am to 10 am
FERN Bird Watch
Aim
To make you aware of the Avifauna of Thane city. We watch common birds around us, while getting to know about their habits, habitats, behavior, calls or songs, food habits, associations, breeding season, etc.
What to bring?
Field diary or notebook, pen, binocular, camera, hand lens, field guide, cap, drinking water, snacks.
Wear dull colour clothes and shoes.
This program is open to all age groups and there are no fees for participating.

Environmental Lecture Series
Every year, in the week following Diwali, FERN Organizes an Environmental Lecture Series in Thane. The series consists of five lectures, delivered by five eminent scientists, journalists, lawmakers, environmentalists, planners or activists working in the field of environment and conservation.
This series is conducted at Amphitheatre, Town Hall, Thane and is free and open to all citizens.
When? Five consecutive days in the week following Diwali.
Time? 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM

Nisargayan Shibir with Dileep & Pournima Kulkarni
This workshop is an outcome of Environment friendly lifestyle adopted by Dileep & Poornima Kulkarni for last 30 years. It involves lectures, discussion, short film, etc. on different topics including comparison between natural & man-made environment, various aspects of development, role of science and technology, energy, environment friendly development, Nature friendly lifestyle along with Yoga and Ayurved.
Duration? One full Sunday
When? December of every year
FERN Nature & Environment Librrary
We have started an affordable circulating library dedicated to books on Nature and Environment. The collection under the library is close to 500 books.

Membership Fees: Rs. 500/- for any three consecutive months
Refundable deposit: Rs. 1000/- for most of the books
For some rare or costly books, the deposit is Rs. 2000/- which you can pay at the time of issue and take back at the time of returning the book
